I’ve always loved VICE. The irreverence and intelligence strikes the right chord, so when the flack at Da Capo told me a reporter from VICE wanted to talk with me at the Gathering about my new book, Juggalo, I never thought twice about it. I have turned down a few interviews this time around, mostly because I knew the interviewer didn’t read the book. So fuck em’.
But Mitchell Sunderland at VICE – who has read the book — has already done great work handling the Juggalos, including this required reading. Amy Lombard’s photos are, not incidentally, always terrific as well.
Last week, I sat down with Mitchell for a few minutes at the Gathering and he kicked out this dope piece based on our conversation.Only qualm I had was her first idea of me standing in front of an American flag. What could go wrong? I counted ten ways before I asked that we ditch that plan. As it turns out, she can make art with ease, despite a reluctant subject.Happy to spend time with Mitchell and Amy, couple of pros making the culture better.
