Girl, Wanted Cop Retires in Wake of Criminal Allegations

The upcoming true crime book, Girl, Wanted: The Chase for Sarah Pender features a state policeman named Ryan Harmon, who relentlessly pursues an escaped convict. It casts him in a good light for the pressure he put on Pender as she hid in plain sight, aided by a wealthy Indianapolis entrepreneur she met shortly after her August 2008 breakout.
Harmon retired a couple weeks ago after a June incident in which he allegedly backed into two parked motorcycles outside an Indianapolis food and booze joint.
According to this account:
Witnesses outside the Cadillac Ranch night club downtown say someone in a dark Jeep was trying to maneuver around several motorcycles parked in the street around 1:45 Sunday morning. They say the Jeep knocked over two of the motorcycles, then the driver turned on red and blue strobe lights and left the scene at a high rate of speed.
Harmon was charged with two counts of felony criminal mischief and one count of misdemeanor failure to stop at an accident. He had been on administrative leave since the investigation began and has been working with producers on a film version of the Pender story, which may or may not see the light of day. The book, meanwhile, comes out June 7; check here for appearances.
